Equinox, Pieces For Guitar, Vol. 2
On Equinox, I am creating a musical work that flows from piece to piece without interrupting the mood. The idea is to provide a backdrop to your thoughts as you (for example) stare out the window on a foggy morning and sip your coffee.
But I also want to bring you on a journey: there are hills and valleys as we move through the music. I have asked fretless bass soloist Michael Manring to add his specific sound to some pieces. There are moody jazz-ballad drums on "Remind Me Again", and a full string section on "My Little Girl".
Most of the music is my composition, but "Clara at Dawn" and "Eusebius’ Dream" are both drawn from Robert Schumann‘s landmark work, "Davidsbündlertänze" (Op. 6 from 1837). Fitting a great piano work into only six strings brings on many compromises. My apologies to all the notes who felt badly when I left them out completely.
"Because", is by Lennon-McCartney. John was originally inspired by Beethoven’s "Moonlight Sonata".
"My Little Girl", by Carol Curtis , appears as a song on her CD that I produced and engineered, "Pink Café". On Equinox, Carol has generously allowed me to repurpose the orchestral arrangement I had written for her project, adding my own guitar in place of her voice.
